It can be confusing regarding when and where you should take your little one to the dentist for the first time. The team at White Space Dental is here to help you out!

It is important that children start their dental journey early in life to avoid future problems.

At White Space Dental we offer a fun and positive appointment for children, to build their confidence and good dental habits.

We aim to make the dentist their favourite place to visit.

When should their first visit be?

Approximately 2.5yrs- 3 years old for first general visit. Earlier if any issues or Trauma.

How should you prepare them?

Some parents use the threat of a dentist to get children to clean their teeth. While it’s great you are making sure they take care of their teeth, demonizing the dentist can have a negative impact on their oral health. We are here to help them at White Space Dental and we want to make their first experience a positive one. Here’s how you can help us do that:

  • Treat it as a milestone – take photos and make it a special occasion!
  • Use positive and child-friendly terms when talking about the dentist – “We’re going to take a ride in the dentist’s chair!”
  • Take them with you when you get a check-up. Model the behaviour and treat it as a positive experience.
  • Play dentist before you come. Get the coat, have them count your teeth and explain that a dentist helps you take care of your teeth.

What will it entail?

The team at White Space Dental will perform a routine examination and make sure that your child’s health and tooth development is going well.

We understand that your child’s first dental experience is a big deal. We want to make this a space for everyone – including your little one. Trust us to give your child the experience so they want to come back to the dentist for life.

We can discuss:

  • Teething
  • How to brush their teeth
  • How your teeth will come together
  • Risk of decay and how to prevent decay
  • Prevention of trauma to your child’s mouth
  • Habits such as sucking their thumb
  • What they eat and how that may affect their mouth.

We understand that your child’s first dental experience is a big deal. We want to make this a space for everyone – including your little one. Trust us to give your child the experience so they want to come back to the dentist for life.
